Why Heart Matters...

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death since 1921, impacting countless lives and families across the nation. In 2015, our family suffered an unexpected death of Eric’s first wife (mother & grandmother) and instrumental part of the family. Her untimely death affected not only family members, but traumatized the community of friends, neighbors and organizations that had supported the Smith family for 25 years! Because of this disease and the impact it has caused to many, we have dedicated our lives to educating, informing and inspiring others to promote healthier lifestyles.

When a person dies from cardiovascular disease, the emotional and psychological toll can be devastating. Survivors often find themselves grappling with profound grief, confusion, and sometimes guilt, as they navigate a future that has irrevocably changed. In addition to the personal loss, families face practical challenges, such as managing finances, household responsibilities, and sometimes even changes in social connections. The ripple effect extends beyond immediate family, affecting friends, colleagues, and even acquaintances who may have formed bonds with the deceased.

Raising awareness about the risk factors and symptoms of cardiovascular disease is crucial in preventing these tragic losses. Many people are unaware of the critical role that lifestyle choices—such as diet, exercise, and stress management—play in maintaining heart health. Additionally, understanding that cardiovascular disease can manifest differently in women is of utmost importance. Women often experience symptoms that differ from the classic signs typically seen in men with heart conditions and heart attacks. This often leads to delayed diagnosing, treatment, and tragically even death.

But all hope is not lost! By sharing stories of those who have lost loved ones to cardiovascular disease, we can raise awareness and humanize this public health issue. Thereby, inspiring others to take proactive measures regarding their heart health. Communities must engage in open dialogues about grief, lack of support systems, and exploring ways to offer assistance to those impacted by such loss.

Together, we can ensure that both the tragedy of losing a loved one and the importance of a healthy heart, remain at the forefront of our conversations, saving lives, and preserving relationships for years to come.
